This quote means that happiness could be found in love. The caring and loving nature of family and friends make people happy. Being loved feels amazing to almost everyone, and most people will agree with that. Showing your love towards someone can mean a lot to that person, just like how we love the attention ourselves, so does everyone else. Mr. Sand is saying he believes that love is the key to everyone's happiness.

Carrie is inspiring all of her audience to not get stuck on the little things in the past that may have held you back from being happy. Everyone has to go and find their own happiness, therefore people cannot let the little setbacks in life change their mindset of finding happiness and being happy. This is something a lot easier said than done, but it is also very important and true for many circumstances.
